Body Dysmorphic Disorder
Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) typically emerges during adolescence, with a mean age of onset around 16 years. BDD in youth is associated with high rates of comorbid depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Early identification and treatment of BDD in adolescents, often involving cognitive-behavioural therapy and sometimes selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), is crucial for preventing long-term impairment.
